当杨助理在接待顾客，把冰棍儿的销售情况记到他的表格里时，张老板把书店里每个书架上的每本书上的灰都擦掉。他让书的边缘都对齐，整整齐齐地放着。他知道这不理性，但是如果他能完成这个任务，可以给自己一种好像他的内心像一个书架一样整整齐齐的感觉，他就不会对和史太太的麻烦感到那么心烦。
当张老板擦书和书架时，他无意中听到杨助理和刘依诺在柜台那里说话。
杨助理：“让我给你看看。有一个软件更新得很有意思。”
刘依诺：“嗯。好的。你最近还做了什么？”
杨助理：“在更新我们的表格。数据看起来不错。”
张老板一边听，一边擦书，心里暗自叫苦。杨助理在说话时，做了他年轻时候做过的同样错误的事情。
张老板知道，杨助理想用自己知道的和有能力做的事给刘依诺留下好印象。杨助理还不明白，对刘依诺来说，最重要的是他们能一起做什么。
幸好，他的妻子没有跟他离婚，而是教他。
张老板的妻子说：“和你在一起，我希望我们可以有一条思路，像两根藤蔓一起生长，长在同一棵树上。我希望你有意识地选择跟我分享的内容，目的是你的思想跟我的思想交织在一起。找我，向我伸手，我也会这样做。你说，我说，你说，我说，两根藤蔓一起向上生长在同一棵树上。”
张老板心想：杨助理，加油。他满怀期待地等着。他想让杨助理跟刘依诺互动，也许杨助理会问刘依诺：“你呢？” 或者更好一点，会问一下：“你最近在想什么？”
这两个问题杨助理都没问。
杨助理说：“如果你愿意，我可以帮你下载这个软件的更新版本。”
张老板在心里叹气。他觉得杨助理的说话方式比史太太的说话方式好一点儿，但是差不多。在关系里，帮忙是好的，但是最重要的是一起。
刘依诺说：“也许吧，谢谢。我先走了。”
杨助理说：“我可以请你吃一根书店冰棍儿吗？很好吃。”
张老板又在心里叹气。礼物是好的。但是，他需要再对杨助理说：最重要的是一起。
刘依诺说：“不用了，谢谢你。拜拜。”
张老板环视了一下书架的角落，他看到杨助理站在柜台后面，看起来难过又困惑。

张老板无视了树。他想：以前，我给刘依诺未经请求的建议，结果不好。我应该想办法帮杨助理成功地追求到刘依诺。我去问史太太。
