“为什么，儿子，为什么？”陈太太大声哭着说。
“陈太太，您得让我问问题。以前我们讨论过，您也同意了这个约定。您可以守约吗？”杨助理说。
“但是他是我儿子！”陈太太又大声哭着说。
张老板觉得自己好像在看一个电视剧。
在书店后屋的桌子旁，坐着很多人：陈太太、杨助理、老李、史太太，还有一些会议成员。桌子中间放着他的沙漏，他妻子送给他的礼物。
坐在张老板对面的是小陈，这个受人尊重的胡同小吃窗口厨师。他的一边坐着妈妈陈太太，另一边的椅子是空的。
杨助理坚持对陈太太说: “我们同意了。您参加会议时，我问问题，您只听不说。您会遵守还是会打破我们的约定？您能守约吗？可以吗？”
在等陈太太回答的同时，张老板想起了他很久以前就想过：“自从陈房东去世以后，陈太太可能会很孤独。参加会议也许能帮到她。我喜欢帮助人。”
张老板想：我当时在想什么啊？！没人让我帮他们，是我自己
决定的。看以前的结果！唉，我真后悔。什么时候我会有一点儿智慧？
张老板的树说：帮助人们学会自助。
“好的，”陈太太叹了口气 。“可以。”
